The performance underlines the recovery in the India personal computer market," Kapil Dev Singh, country manager of IDC India. While HP retained its top slot with a market share of 17.1%, Dell emerged as the number two player with a market share of 11.3% piping Acer's 11.1%.
This is the largest ever jump for Dell in market share in a quarter signifying a 17% growth, Sameer Garde, country general manager, Dell India, told DNA Money. A large proportion of the company's growth came from consumer notebooks business, he said. However, in desktops, HP, which had a market share of 12.2%, was followed by HCL and Acer, respectively in the second and third spots. HP retained the top spot in notebooks, too.
"Though the consumer PC segment recorded a faster 28% growth, industry will need to watch how the recovery in consumer PC shipments unfolds in the quarters ahead," IDC's Singh said.
